Media Framing on The Political Coalition Towards The 2019 Presidential Election

The agenda of the 2019 presidential election has become an important discourse in the mass media in Indonesia. The political forces that will fight in the democratic event are constructed by the national mass media so it can become public opinion. The political battle map was constructed by the media after a meeting between Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) as the Democratic Party Chairman and Prabowo Subiyanto as the Gerindra Party Chairman at the residence of SBY in Puri Cikeas Gunung Putri Bogor on Thursday, July 27, 2017. Republika and Kompas as the influential newspapers in Indonesia construct a different framing media which was influenced by the ideology of its redaction institution. The subjectivity of these two newspapers in presenting the reality was not the same, it provided benefits for public discourse treasury in following the dynamics of politics in Indonesia. Republika which has Islam Nationality as the ideology constructed a meeting of the two leaders of those political parties to oversee the government in order to avoid the abuse of power. Meanwhile, Kompas, a nationalist Christian Nationalist, framed the meeting of those two national figures as a political communication agenda guarding the journey of the nation and building a coalition toward the 2019 presidential election.
