Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation between students' mindset and students’ speaking ability. This research was conducted at Baturaja University. The population of this study was 94 students with a sample of 38 students, namely 22 semester 2 students and 16 semester 4 students. In this study, the authors used a quantitative approach to find answers from research. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and tests. This type of research used design correlation, the authors used non-experimental. Determination of the sample used convenience sampling technique. The writer gave a questionnaire and a speaking test to the students. Based on the test results, students’ average thinking skills score was 70.92 and their speaking ability was 71.05. The writer found a significant correlation between students' mindsets and speaking abilities in the English language education program at Baturaja University. (r) between students' mindset and students' speaking ability is 0.818 with a significance level of 0.05. From the calculation
above, the writer concludes that there is a significant correlation between students' mindset and students' speaking ability. The correlation is classified as high or significant with a correlation coefficient of 0.818 and a significance level of correlation of 0.01 <0.05. This means that the research hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. The research hypothesis is that there is a positive and significant relationship between students' mindsets and students' speaking abilities.
