Abstract

In the Indonesian language teaching at class XII, described in the core competencies and developed through basic competence. KI SMA of class XII, in point 4 is expressed. Processing, reasoning, explaining, and create in the realm of concrete and abstract domains associated with the development of the learned in school independently and act as an effective and creative, and able to use the method according to the rules of science.KD 4.1, interpret the meaning of the text narrative history, news, advertising, editorial / opinion, and fiction in the novel both orally and in writing. Furthermore, KD 4.5, convert text historical stories, news, advertising, editorial / opinion, and fiction in the novel into another form in accordance with the structure and rules of the text both orally and in writing. Associated with core competence and basic competences, in this paper the author tries to analyze a result of research that has been conducted by researchers in an experiment on active learning oriented character in learning to read. Active learning is a character-oriented forms of learning that allows students actively participate in the learning process itself either in the form of student interaction with faculty and students in the learning process. Character-oriented model of active learning can help students to become a person who is able to adaptable, critial, active, creative, and cooperative. Based on the testing that has been done that the t test, analysis of the gain (d), the discussion of the quality of the learning process, and the character development of students, it can be concluded that the Active Learning Model (Active Learning) Oriented Character (MPABK) effective for teaching reading comprehension. While it can also be argued that, based on the four tests that have been done that, t-test, analysis of the gain (d), the discussion of the quality of the learning process, which is performed during the learning model is not more effective than MPABK to teach reading comprehension skills. Besides MPABK improve learning outcomes of students' reading comprehension, MPABK also make students aware of the importance of character, adaptable, critical, active, creative, and cooperative, are characters positive that need to be developed.
