THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING MEMRISE LANGUAGE APPLICATION IN IMPROVING ENGLISH VOCABULARY MASTERY AT THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS’ OF SMP NEGERI 2 OKU

The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of Memrise application as a language application in Improving English Vocabulary. This research was carried out based on observation which showed that eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 OKU had difficulty in learning English. This research applied pre-experimental research design which one group pre-test and post-test design. The population was taken from eighth grade students. The sample of this research was students at class VIII.4 with the total of students 33 consist 16 male and 17 female. The researcher used vocabulary test as an instrument. The researcher analyse the data by finding the mean score of pre-test and post-test.
The researcher classify the data by using paired sample T-test to know the differences in students’ achievement before and after treatment. The result of this research showed the mean score of pre test was 60 and the mean score of post test
was 73 with the value of sig. = 0.01 less than the significance level (α = 0.05), so it means that there was a great correlation between the score pre-test and post-test.
Then, the value of t-obtained = 10.705 was more than the value of t-table 2.036 with df = 32. It means that the null hyphothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hyphothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that it is effective
of using Memsrise language application in improving English vocabulary mastery at the eighth grade students’ of SMP Negeri 2 OKU.
