THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN COMPREHENDING A DECRIPTIVE TEXT AT SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 21 OKU

This thesis was concerned to The students’ ability in comprehending a descriptive text at seventh grade student of SMP N 21 OKU. The objectives of this study was to know The students’ ability in comprehending a descriptive text at seventh grade student of SMP N 21 OKU. The total number of the population was 102 students; and 72 students were taken as the sample through purposive sampling. The reading test was used as the techniques for collecting the data. In this research the researcher used descriptive quantitative. Based on the findings there were 14 students (19,44%) gained score 80-100 in level very good, 51 students (62,96%) who gained score 66-79 in level good, 6 students (7,41%) who gained score 56-65 in level fair, 1 students (1,23%) who gained score 41-55 in level poor and no students got score  45 in level fail. So it could be concluded that the mean of the student’ score in comprehending a descriptive text of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 21 OKU was in good category. The average correct answer of the students’ score obtained in comprehending a descriptive text at seventh grade student of SMP N 21 OKU was 75,48 %, it meant that the ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 21 OKU was in good category.
