Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine wether the Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy can improve students` reading comprehension ability on recount text at second-grade of SMP Negeri 21 OKU. The method of this research is preexperimetal design, one group pre-test and post-test. It means the reseacher only focused on one class as experiment class, and not used control class. The population of this research is all of students at second-grade of SMP N 21 OKU.
The sample of this research class VIII A consist of 27 students. The technique of sampling was simple random sampling. The instument that the reseacher used to conducted the data were pre-test and post-test. The data analyze by using scoring student correct answer, percentage student score, mean, and statical analysis was paired sample t-test. The result of this research define that the QAR strategy was
effective to improve the students` reading comprehension. The score average of pre-test was 54,63 and the score average of post test was 67,41. It means that there was significance differences before and after treatment. The data analysis also showed that significance value (2-tailed) is 0,000 which is less than the significance level 0,05 (5%). That means Alternative Hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (H0) is rejected. This showed that QAR strategy was effective to use in teaching reading.
