THE STUDENTS’ INTEREST IN LEARNING ENGLISH AT THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS IN MTs N 1 OKU

The objective of this research is to know how is students’ interest of the Eighth grade students of MTs N 1 OKU in learning English and to find out the factors that affect student interest in English learning at the Eighth grade students in MTs N 1 OKU.The method of this research is descriptive quantitative. The population of this research is all of students at second-grade of MTs N 1 OKU. The sample of this research class VIII B and VIII F consist of 70 students. The technique of sampling was cluster random sampling. Technique of data collection in this research is questionnaires. The data analyze by using scoring student correct answer, percentage student score, and descriptive. The result of this research define that the there were 4 students (6%) in very good classificasion, 25 students (36%) in good classification, 19 students (27%) in fair clasification, 15 students (21%) in less classification and 7 students (10%) Poor classification, it can be seen that almost of the class VIII B and VIII F have a good interest in learning English or are interested in learning English.Meanwhile, external factors come from outside the individual that affects students' interest in learning. These factors come from families, schools which include teachers and facilities, and peers. These factors are proven to affect the interest of eighth-graders at MTs N 1 OKU in learning English subjects based on the results of data analysis.
