Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out students’ ability in writing descriptive text at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 13 OKU. The method of this study was used descriptive quantitative research. The sample of this research was the seventh grade students from 7.1 which consisted of 33 students. The researcher was given tryout to class 7.3 which consisting 1 essay to test instrument test. After giving a tryout, the researcher reliabel that were and used for test. Based on findings and interpretations, the students’ test showed that the students’ writing descriptive text skill in was Fair. It could be seen from the result of the percentage of all raters. There were 4 students (12%) in the “Very Good” category due to the use of good vocabulary, extensive, knowledge and the use of good grammar as well the use of punctuation, capital letter and excellent spelling. Although there are still many mistake, 7 students (22%) are in the “Good” category because students the use vocabulary is quite good, but not as good as the stuents in the excellent category, 9 students (27%) are in the “Fair” category because students are still wrong in the grammar, but the vocabulary is good, 8 students (24%) are in the “Poor” category because students often repeat sentences and the use grammar, punctuation, and spelling is sufficient, and finally 5 students (15%) are in the category “fail” category because students are still minimal in organizing ideas and the use of grammar, puntctuation, and spelling.
