Abstract

This study aims to describe the violation of the principle of cooperation and the function of conversational implicature of Ogan people in Pasar Baru Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. The method used is a descriptive method. The data
collection techniques used were recording, listening, and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that in buying and selling in Pasar Baru Baturaja conversations there are violations of the maxims: quantity (12 sentences), quality (13 sentences), relevance (7 sentences), and manner (3
sentences). The most dominant violation is found in the maxim of quality. Five functions of conversational implicature were found, namely assertive (65 sentences), declarative (2 sentences), expressive (19 sentences), directive (118
sentences), and commissive (18 sentences), with the most dominant function being directive. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the conversations of Ogan people show violations of the principle of cooperation and the use of
various functions of conversational implicature that reflect practical and interactive characteristics. The results of this study can serve as reference material for conducting further research in pragmatics and sociopragmatics.
