KEMAMPUAN SISWA KELAS VIII SMP NEGERI 13 OKU DALAM MENGIDENTIFIKASI TEKS PIDATO

The objective of this study is to describe the ability of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 13 OKU in identifying speech texts. This study employed a descriptive method. The data source consisted of students' test results in identifying speech texts. The data were collected through an essay-based test, and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The results of the analysis show that the majority of students demonstrated a very good ability in identifying speech texts, with an average score of 82. Specifically, 71.88% of students were
categorized as "very good," 15.63% as "good," 9.38% as "fair," and 3.13% as "poor." Among the assessed aspects, the closing structure showed the highest level of accuracy (46.56%), followed by the content (41.88%), the introduction (38.13%), and linguistic features, which had the lowest percentage (29.06%). These findings indicate that students have a relatively strong understanding of the structural
components of speech texts; however, their ability to identify linguistic features remains an area that requires improvement. It is expected that this research will
contribute to the development of more effective instructional strategies for teaching speech texts at the junior high school level.
