Abstract
This research aims to describe the speech-making abilities of class students. VIII SMP Negeri 13 OKU before and after the implementation of the Project Based Learning model to see whether the Project Based Learning model is effectively
applied. This research method uses a quantitative approach with a one group pretest-posttest experimental design. The population in this study consists of all 351 students from class VIII 5 at SMP Negeri 13 OKU, with a sample of 31 students. The data collection technique in this study involved performance tests in the form of speech tests. Data analysis used statistical techniques with the t-test formula. The results of the t-test analysis showed a t-value of 14.8 compared to the t-table at a significance level of 5% = 2.04 and 1% = 2.76. Since the t-value is greater than the t-table value, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the Project Based Learning model is effective in improving the speech skills of 8th-grade students in class VIII 5 at SMP Negeri 13 OKU.
